Cookie Policy

What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help us remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and understand how you use Recipe Manager so we can improve the experience.
1. Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for Recipe Manager to function. They cannot be disabled. No consent is required for these cookies under ePrivacy and GDPR regulations.
| Cookie | Purpose |
|---|---|
| sb-*-auth-token | Authentication and session management. Keeps you securely logged in across page loads. |
| cart_items | Shopping cart persistence. Remembers items in your shopping list between sessions. |
| locale | Stores your preferred language (English or Spanish) so the app loads in the right language every time. |
| theme | Stores your light/dark theme preference to avoid flash of unstyled content on load. |
| cookie-consent | Records your cookie preference choice so we do not show the banner again. |
| __csrf | Cross-Site Request Forgery protection token. Prevents unauthorized actions on your behalf. |
2. Optional Cookies (Require Consent)
These cookies are only set after you explicitly opt in via the cookie consent banner. You can change your preference at any time.
Analytics Cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand usage patterns and page views in aggregate. All data is anonymized (IP anonymization is enabled). These cookies help us identify which features are popular, where users encounter problems, and how to prioritize improvements.
- _ga / _ga_* — Distinguishes unique visitors and tracks sessions. Expires after 2 years / 2 years.
- _gid — Distinguishes users for aggregate reporting. Expires after 24 hours.
Performance Cookies
Vercel Speed Insights and Sentry collect anonymized performance data including page load times, navigation timing, and JavaScript error tracking. This data helps us detect and fix performance regressions and runtime errors.
3. Chrome Extension
The Recipe Manager Chrome extension helps you import recipes from retailer websites including Walmart, Costco, BJs, and Aldi. Here is how the extension handles data:
- The extension only activates on the specific retailer domains you are browsing (walmart.com, costco.com, bjs.com, aldi.us) and only when you actively click the extension to import a recipe.
- It reads recipe data (title, ingredients, instructions) from the current page and sends it to Recipe Manager for processing. It does not read or modify any other data on those pages.
- The extension does not perform cross-site tracking, set advertising cookies, or collect browsing history.
- No data is shared with third-party advertisers or data brokers through the extension.
4. Managing Your Cookies
You have full control over cookies on Recipe Manager:
Via Our Cookie Banner
When you first visit Recipe Manager, you will see a cookie consent banner at the bottom of the page. Choose "Accept All" to enable analytics, or "Necessary Only" to use only essential cookies. Your preference is stored in the cookie-consent cookie and persists across sessions.

Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings. Common paths:
- Chrome:Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
- Firefox:Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
